Skoda starts updated Kushaq production in Pune, deliveries scheduled from March

Skoda Auto Volkswagen India has started manufacturing the updated Kushaq at its Chakan plant near Pune, with customer deliveries expected to commence next month. The rollout marks the brand’s first major launch cycle for 2026 and reinforces its ongoing localisation-driven strategy in the Indian market.

The Kushaq remains an important product for Skoda’s domestic lineup as it was among the earliest vehicles developed specifically for India under the company’s local product programme. Built with a high level of local sourcing, the SUV has contributed significantly to the group’s sales volumes while also supporting export operations from India.

Feature Updates Focus On Comfort And Convenience

The refreshed version of the midsize SUV introduces a number of equipment upgrades intended to improve passenger comfort and overall appeal. Among the additions are a rear-seat massage function, a panoramic sunroof and a newly introduced 8-speed torque converter automatic transmission option.

The new automatic gearbox is expected to offer smoother power delivery and improved everyday usability compared to existing transmission choices.

Safety Package Continues Unchanged

On the safety front, the SUV continues with an extensive list of active and passive systems, with the company maintaining its previously achieved 5-star crash safety ratings for adult and child protection. However, the updated model does not introduce advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), which are increasingly appearing in some rivals.

India’s Expanding Role In Skoda’s Manufacturing Plans

The quick transition from global unveiling earlier this year to local production highlights the operational readiness of the Pune manufacturing facility. Customer deliveries are scheduled to begin in March 2026, with the company indicating encouraging booking interest.

The Kushaq forms a core part of Skoda Auto Volkswagen India’s locally produced lineup alongside models such as the Kylaq, Slavia, Taigun and Virtus. The group reported strong overall sales performance in 2025, with newer models, particularly the Kylaq, playing a major role in driving volumes.

With production now underway, Skoda will look to strengthen the Kushaq’s position in the competitive midsize SUV segment while continuing to use India as both a key domestic market and an export base.
