Entrepreneurship rarely follows a straight path. For Samaksh Dhariwal from Moradabad, the journey to building Zero Dust Detailing Garage was shaped as much by failure as by passion.
Today, his venture offers car washing and detailing services at High Street TDI — one of Moradabad’s premium locations. But the road to launching this automotive-focused business was far from smooth.
Lessons from early failures
Before entering the car detailing space, Dhariwal had already experimented with entrepreneurship.
He first ventured into the coaching business. Although the concept was promising, operational challenges proved difficult to overcome. Hiring external teachers on hourly payments made the model financially unsustainable.
His next attempt was in the dairy business. However, the nature of the business demanded round-the-clock involvement — from early morning operations to late-night management. As the sole family member managing it locally, while his parents lived in the village, the workload became overwhelming.
Both ventures eventually failed.
Yet instead of discouraging him, these experiences offered clarity.
Turning passion into opportunity
Dhariwal’s interest in automobiles dates back to childhood. He recalls driving a vehicle for the first time as a sixth-grade student, an experience that sparked a lasting fascination with cars.
Over the years, this interest evolved into knowledge — from understanding different models to appreciating vehicle care and maintenance.
For nearly two years, he considered launching a car detailing garage. However, practical barriers stood in the way.
Sometimes it was funding. At other times, it was the lack of a suitable location.
Moradabad already had several washing and detailing units along Delhi Road. Dhariwal wanted something different — a presence in a more premium neighbourhood like MDA’s Ashiana area.
The breakthrough came a few months ago when he secured both the funds and a suitable high-street location.
When funding fell short
The initial plan estimated around Rs 12 lakh for construction and equipment.
But as work progressed, labour costs and additional expenses exceeded expectations.
After investing Rs 10–12 lakh of his own funds and borrowing Rs 2–3 lakh from family, Dhariwal still faced a financial gap. Machinery purchases and working capital requirements added further pressure.
At this stage, a recommendation from a contact at the District Industries Centre introduced him to the CM Yuva Udyami Vikas Abhiyan (CM YUVA) Yojana.
The appeal was immediate.
The loan came without interest, with a six-month moratorium before repayment began. Compared to a previous loan he had taken at 12 percent interest — which required immediate repayment — the scheme offered much-needed breathing space.
Building without pressure
With government-backed support, Dhariwal was able to complete his setup.
Zero Dust Detailing Garage now operates with a five-member team offering services such as:
- Premium foam washing
- Deep cleaning
- Dry cleaning
- Ceramic coating
- Paint protection film (PPF)
- Engine and surface coatings
Despite being only days into operation, the response from customers has been encouraging.
The absence of early repayment pressure has allowed Dhariwal to focus on service quality rather than immediate cash flow.
Scaling the vision
The business began with an investment of around Rs 20 lakh, but Dhariwal sees significant growth potential.
Future plans include expanding into paint jobs, mechanical services, and additional detailing solutions. With consistent demand, he envisions building a 15-20-member team within a year and possibly launching a franchise within the next two to three years.
From failed ventures to a promising automotive service brand, Dhariwal’s story underscores an essential truth of entrepreneurship — setbacks are often stepping stones to more aligned opportunities.
For him, the shift from dairy and coaching to car detailing was not just a business decision, but the alignment of passion with practicality.
