Mercedes recalls 149 India cars over ADAS safety issue

Mercedes-Benz India has announced a voluntary recall involving 149 vehicles across three models in its luxury and performance portfolio. The recall notice was issued on February 15 and pertains to a potential issue linked to the Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS).

The affected models include the CLE Cabriolet, CLE 53 AMG Coupe and the C 63 S E Performance. According to the company, certain vehicles may experience a malfunction in the emergency stop assist function.

Issue related to emergency stop assist

Emergency stop assist is designed to intervene if the system detects prolonged inactivity from the driver, such as no steering input or hands-off driving for an extended period. In such situations, the system is intended to bring the vehicle to a controlled stop as a safety measure.

Mercedes-Benz has indicated that in some cases, this function may not operate as intended. If the feature fails to activate when required, it could reduce the effectiveness of the vehicle’s safety systems.

Production period and customer communication

The recall covers vehicles manufactured between September 2, 2024 and March 18, 2025. Owners of the affected cars will be contacted individually by authorised Mercedes-Benz service centres.

The company has stated that inspections and any necessary corrective actions will be carried out at no cost to customers.

Voluntary recalls of this nature are typically conducted as a precautionary measure to address potential safety concerns and ensure compliance with quality standards.
