MINI launches limited 1965 Victory Edition of Cooper S in India

MINI has begun accepting bookings for the Cooper 1965 Victory Edition in India, a limited-run model that commemorates the brand’s victory at the 1965 Monte Carlo Rally. The special edition is based on the two-door Cooper S and will be offered in India exclusively with the petrol engine and the JCW Pack. Allocation numbers for the country have not yet been disclosed.

Exterior Highlights

The 1965 Victory Edition is finished in a distinctive Chili Red paint shade, complemented by a contrasting white stripe running across the bonnet, roof and tailgate. Buyers can opt for either a white-painted roof or a black roof with a twin-pane sunroof, with both versions retaining the signature white racing stripe.

Additional visual changes include ‘52’ decals on the doors and rear pillars – a reference to the rally-winning car – along with 18-inch two-tone alloy wheels, a twin-bubble rear spoiler and a centrally mounted tailpipe beneath the rear diffuser. A red ‘1965 Victory Edition’ script is positioned below the rear windscreen within the white stripe.

With the JCW Pack, the car also gets ‘John Cooper Works’ badges on the grille and tailgate, gloss-black exterior detailing and blacked-out MINI logos.

Interior Updates

Inside, the cabin carries over the standard Cooper’s contemporary layout but incorporates edition-specific touches. The door sills feature ‘1965 Victory Edition’ branding, while the doors pay tribute to rally driver Timo Makinen and co-driver Paul Easter.

The leather-wrapped sports steering wheel includes a multi-colour 6 o’clock marker and a ‘1965’ insignia. A commemorative emblem has also been added to the centre storage lid, which is finished in a fabric-like material and features a loop-style opener. The key fob receives ‘52’ badging to mirror the exterior theme.

Engine And Performance

Mechanically, the special edition remains unchanged from the Cooper S. It is powered by a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine producing 204 HP and 300 Nm of torque. The motor is paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission that sends power to the front wheels.

Performance figures remain identical to the standard Cooper S, with a claimed 0-100 km/hr sprint time of 6.6 seconds and a top speed just under 240 km/hr.

Expected Pricing

MINI has not yet revealed pricing for the 1965 Victory Edition in India. However, given its limited availability and unique cosmetic elements, it is expected to be priced above the standard Cooper S in JCW trim, which currently starts at Rs. 55.15 lakhs (ex-showroom).

With bookings now open, interested buyers will likely need to act quickly, as allocation numbers are expected to be restricted.
