Honda Alpha Teaser

Honda Cars India has confirmed the name of its upcoming electric SUV as the Honda Alpha. The new model will make its global debut in India on 2 December 2026, marking the Japanese manufacturer’s entry into the country’s electric SUV segment.

The Honda Alpha will be the company’s first electric SUV manufactured in India. The announcement also confirms that India will be the first market to receive the new model, highlighting the country’s growing importance in Honda’s global electrification strategy.

Based on the Honda 0 Alpha Concept

The production-spec Honda Alpha draws inspiration from the 0 Alpha concept, which was showcased at the Japan Mobility Show in October 2025. The concept previewed Honda’s vision for a new-generation electric SUV, with an emphasis on contemporary styling, technology and everyday usability.

While Honda has not disclosed the technical specifications of the production model, reports suggest that it could be offered with LFP battery packs in the 65kWh to 75kWh range. A single electric motor powering the front wheels is also expected, although these details remain unconfirmed by the manufacturer.

As a midsize electric SUV, the Honda Alpha is expected to compete in an increasingly crowded segment. Its potential rivals include the Hyundai Creta Electric, MG Windsor EV, Maruti Suzuki e Vitara, Toyota Urban Cruiser Ebella and the upcoming Tata Sierra EV.

India to Become Global Production Hub

Honda will manufacture the Alpha at its Tapukara facility in Rajasthan. The plant is expected to serve as the global production base for the electric SUV, indicating that the model could play a role in Honda’s international EV plans beyond the Indian market.

The announcement also marks the introduction of Honda’s redesigned H Mark in the Indian market. The updated emblem has been adopted globally for the company’s automobile business and is intended to represent Honda’s transformation and its focus on future mobility. The Alpha will be the first Honda model sold in India to feature the new branding.

Honda’s Electric SUV Push in India

The Honda Alpha will expand the company’s India portfolio, which currently comprises the Amaze, City and Elevate, all manufactured locally. The ZR-V is also part of its Indian offering, although it is imported from Japan.

The launch comes at a time when several manufacturers are strengthening their presence in India’s electric passenger vehicle market. Honda’s decision to manufacture the Alpha locally and make India its first launch market could give the company an opportunity to establish a stronger foothold in this segment.

However, much will depend on the SUV’s final specifications, driving range, features and pricing. Honda is yet to reveal these details, which will be important in determining how competitive the Alpha will be against established and upcoming electric SUVs.
