BYD Atto 3 Evo gains larger battery and AWD option

BYD has revealed the full technical details of the updated BYD Atto 3, nearly a year after previewing its refreshed exterior. The electric SUV now carries an ‘Evo’ suffix and receives substantial mechanical and electrical upgrades, including a larger battery pack, revised drivetrain layout and the introduction of an all-wheel-drive variant. The India launch timeline, however, is yet to be confirmed.

The most significant change is the move from a 60.5kWh battery to a 74.8kWh unit. As a result, the WLTP-certified range increases to up to 510 km in the standard version, compared to 418 km earlier. The updated model also shifts from a front-wheel-drive configuration to a rear-wheel-drive layout. Power output rises to 313 HP and 380 Nm, enabling a claimed 0-100 km/hr sprint in 5.5 seconds and a top speed of 180 km/hr.

For those seeking higher performance, BYD has introduced an Atto 3 Evo AWD variant. Using the same 74.8kWh battery pack, it produces 449 HP and 560 Nm, with a claimed 0-100 km/hr time of 3.9 seconds and a top speed of 200 km/hr. The trade-off comes in range, which drops to a WLTP-certified 470 km for the dual-motor version.

The Atto 3 Evo also transitions from a 400V to an 800V electrical architecture, increasing peak charging capacity from 88kW to 220kW. Charging times have improved despite the larger battery, with a 10-80 percent charge now achievable in 25 minutes. The battery additionally supports vehicle-to-load (V2L) functionality with up to 3kW output. Hardware updates include a revised five-link rear suspension setup, a larger 490-litre boot, and a new 101-litre front trunk. Inside, the gear selector moves to a steering column-mounted stalk, while the 8.8-inch instrument cluster and 15.6-inch touchscreen continue with updated software.
