Volkswagen Tayron bookings open ahead of price announcement this month

Volkswagen has commenced official bookings for the Volkswagen Tayron in India ahead of its price reveal scheduled later this month. Customers can reserve the three-row SUV either online or at authorised dealerships by paying a booking amount of Rs. 51,000.

The Tayron will serve as Volkswagen’s flagship SUV offering in the Indian market. Unlike the Tiguan R-Line, which is brought in as a completely built unit, the Tayron will be locally assembled from CKD kits. This strategy is expected to help the brand position the SUV more competitively in the segment.

The Tayron is essentially a larger, seven-seat counterpart to the Tiguan R-Line introduced in India last year. It will be offered exclusively in the sporty R-Line trim. On the equipment front, the SUV is set to feature Matrix LED headlamps, 19-inch alloy wheels and illuminated Volkswagen logos at the front and rear.

Inside the cabin, the Tayron will come equipped with a 15-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, three-zone climate control and a head-up display. Other notable features include powered front seats with memory, heating, ventilation and massage functions, ambient lighting and a powered tailgate.

Volkswagen will offer the Tayron in seven exterior colour options, including Dolphin Grey Metallic, Oyster Silver Metallic, Ultraviolet Metallic, Cipressino Green Metallic, Nightshade Blue Metallic, Grenadilla Black Metallic and Oryx White Mother-of-Pearl Effect.

Powering the Tayron will be a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine producing 204 HP and 320 Nm of torque. The engine will be paired with a 7-speed DSG automatic transmission, with Volkswagen’s 4Motion all-wheel-drive system offered as standard. The company claims a 0-100 km/hr time of 7.3 seconds and a top speed of 224 km/hr.

Upon launch, the Tayron will compete with models such as the Skoda Kodiaq, Jeep Meridian and Toyota Fortuner in the premium three-row SUV space.

More details regarding pricing and variant structure are expected at the official launch event later this month.
